GUSDA’s Annual Events: Celebrating Culture, Community & Connection
GUSDA proudly hosts two flagship annual events that bring the UK-based Guyanese community together to celebrate sports, culture, and heritage.

Guyana Folk Festival
Launched in 2008, the Guyana Folk Festival is a celebration of Guyanese arts, music, and cuisine. This cultural showcase has featured renowned performers such as Ram John Holder (Pork Pie), Keith Waithe, Doris Harper-Wills, Marc Matthews, Terry Gadraj, Jumo Primo, and Liza Singh. Attendees are treated to traditional Guyanese dishes like curry and roti, pepper pot, salara, cassava pone, and pine tart, accompanied by refreshing mauby or sorrel. More than just an event, the Folk Festival is an opportunity to relive cherished memories and pass on Guyanese traditions to the next generation.

Guyana Family Sports & Fun Day
A tradition since 2004, the Guyana Family Sports & Fun Day is one of the UK’s largest gatherings of Guyanese and friends. Originally attracting 2,000 attendees, it has seen crowds of up to 6,000 people and is now hosted at the Croydon Sports Arena. This much-anticipated event takes place in late July or early August and features athletics, traditional Guyanese games, music, and great food. It’s a day where families reconnect, children enjoy friendly races, and adults reminisce with old friends in a vibrant, festive atmosphere.
